French title of this exhibition: “L’Empire en Boîtes”

On the occasion of the 250th aniversary of the birth of François-René de Chateaubriand (born 4 September 1786), the Domaine de la Vallée-aux-loups (website in French) – residence of the famous writer and politician  – and the Fondation Napoléon joined together in order to create the exhibition Imperial Boxes from 19 October 2018 to 10 March 2019.

84 works belonging to the Fondation Napoleon’s collection, of which 45  were specially made luxurious boxes for everyday use or travelling, were presented in order to shed light on the First Empire through art and craftmanship.
