From May onwards, a variety of events will take place to enable a wide public to discover the traces still present of the Emperor in Compiègne and thus reconnect with his prestigious past: dramatised tours with actors in period costumes crossing the Allee des Beaux-Monts, guided tours: “Imperial legend from Waterloo to the les Invalides” at the Museum of Historical Figurines, “In the footsteps of Napoleon I in Compiègne” starting at the Tourist Office, talks by renowned historians at the bibliothèque Saint Corneille (Saint Corneille library), not forgetting a treasure hunt through the town centre, a photo competition … and much more!

– 5 May: Launch of the photo competition “In the footsteps of Napoleon I” (open from 5 May to 30 June) – Send your most beautiful photos to tourisme@agglo-compiegne.fr
– 5 May: Imperial treasure hunt – starting from the tourist office (Place de l’Hôtel de ville, 60200 Compiègne, Telephone: 03 44 40 01 00) – from 5 May to 3 October, every day of the week. A booklet will enable you to go in search of the imperial treasures through the town. It can be picked up at the town hall.

PrEsentation OF THE TOWN OF Compiègne

To pay tribute to Emperor Napoleon I, who transformed the Château de Compiègne into an imperial residence in 1806, the town of Compiègne will join in the bicentenary commemorations of his death that will be held throughout the world. Emperor Napoleon I made two notable visits to Compiègne: the first in March 1810, to welcome his new wife, Archduchess Marie-Louise; for her, developments were made which gave rise to several local legends, including the Berceau de l’Impératrice and the allée des Beaux-Monts. A second stay took place the following year, in the spring of 1811, when the imperial couple spent a few weeks in Compiègne, shortly after the birth of the King of Rome…
