How do young people in France view history and history teaching? (May 2024 survey)
The Observatoire Histoire & Vie publique, set up by the Fondation Napoléon in 2024 and its partners, asked Ifop to conduct a survey of young people in France aged 15 to 24 on their relationship with history.
A number of conclusions can be drawn, starting with the fact that secondary school students consider history as a subject of major importance :
– History is the favourite subject of secondary school pupils, after maths.
– Young people want to learn and develop their critical faculties, and to achieve this they are in favour of history teaching (77%).
The entire survey (in French) can be consulted on the Observatoire Histoire & Vie publique’s news page (in French) by clicking here.
