Two similar booklets brought together by their authors, both comic actors in the vaudeville theatres during the Empire. Jean-Joseph Mira known as Brunet (1766-1853) excelled in using daft humour, like Cadet-Roussel and Jocrisse (a buffonesque valet: the incarnation of silliness and clumsiness) the title role with which he made his name. Charles-Gabriel Potier (1774-1838) found theatrical fame in comic plays, in particular between 1809 and 1818 at the Théâtre des Variétés under Brunet’s direction. Alongside their success treading the boards, they produced side projects like these little booklets (in-32) which could be easily slipped into a jacket pocket. The booklets meant that puns and word plays, essential games for any successful party between family and friends, were available to all.
