Napoleon and Paris at the Canadian Museum of History (Gatineau, Qc)

This exhibition at the Canadian Museum of History until January 8, 2017 presents nearly 250 documents which explore the relationship between the capital city of France and the Emperor.

The exhibition is based around some of the exhibits which were included in the exhibition Napoléon et  Paris which took place March-August 2015 at the Carnavalet Museum in Paris, France, produced in partnership with the Fondation Napoléon.

The Fondation Napoléon has lent 14 artworks :

  • A chamberlain’s ceremonial key
  • A chamberlain’s ceremonial key with the insignia of Prince Eugène, vice-roi of Italy
  • Two dome-covered plates with the arms of Madame Mère, by Jean- Baptiste-Claude ODIOT (1763-1850)
  • A pair of chairs from Napoleon’s Cabinet de travail at the Palais des Tuileries
  • A portrait of Jérôme Bonaparte c. 1804, by Louis- François AUBRY (1767- 1851)
  • A drawing of an outing from the Palais des Tuileries, by Pierre-François- Léonard FONTAINE (1762- 1853)
  • A plate from the Emperor’s personal table service illustrating  “The bridge of Austerlitz”, by Nicolas- Antoine LEBEL
  • A plate from the Emperor’s personal table service “La Manufacture de Sèvres”, by Jean- François ROBERT (1778- 1832)
  • A plate from the Emperor’s personal table service illustrating “L’Orangerie du Jardin des Plantes » (1st version), by Nicolas- Antoine LEBEL
  • A door lock taken from the Palais des Tuileries
  • A sculpture of the Roi de Rome as a baby
  • A sculpture reproduction of the tomb of Napoleon at the Invalides in Paris
  • A decorative motif from the Tuileries
